Glamping in Upstate NY

For a weekend getaway this summer, Jack, Uni (our puppy), and I went to the Hudson Valley of upstate New York for our first glamping adventure. While we also love grungy, wilderness backpacking, we wanted to give the whole glamping trend a try. We drove for a 2-night getaway to Germantown, a city nearby the Catskills in upstate NY.

Our Airbnb was at Gatherwild Ranch, an expansive 75-acre plot of land which is home to barns, sheep farms, apple orchards, an outdoor kitchen, greenhouse, and outdoor toilets/showers galore. We stayed in the cutest yurt that was comfortably furnished with a queen sized bed, folding chairs, sheepskin rugs, throws, and more. Talk about outdoor luxury! Check out their website for all their available yurts!

When we weren't exploring the grounds, building campfires, or watching the stars while drinking wine, we would drive off site to the nearby wineries (Millbrook Winery), hike along the many nature trails in the area, visit Mills Mansion, and eat at the restaurants in downtown Germantown.

On our last day there, I wore this paisley pattern dress that holds a very special place in my heart. It will forever be one of my favorite dresses of all time, because it was my mother's dress when she was younger. Knowing that I look a lot like my mother, I love imagining how similar we must've looked with it on. I feel connected to her even though she is living on the west coast in California.

This dress gives off some serious boho chic vibes, with its vintage print, large bell sleeves, and boxed silhouette. To feel like a nature gypsy, I paired it with summery espadrilles and topped the look with a floral headpiece that I got from an indoor flea market in Brooklyn. As we were driving back into the city, I carried one of my favorite bags by Mansur Gavriel, the Lady Bag in the color Brandy.

While I think I still prefer to go all out and rough it in the wild, glamping is a very fun alternative. It's perfect if you want to feel connected to nature but also want the relaxing comforts of home. I'd definitely recommend you giving it a try!

Have you tried glamping before? How was your experience? Do you have recommendations for short weekend getaways in upstate NY? I'd love to know in the comments below!

Wishing you all a lovely week!

XOXO
